Bachelor of Arts in Music

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is a full time degree course. This course requires total dedication from the student in terms of time and emotional commitment, to achieve technical and artistic maturity. It provides general music education that does not confer a professional qualification. It can be taken with Majors in instrumental/vocal performance and in music theory and composition. The Bachelor of Arts in Music is followed by specialised Master’s degrees. Transition from Bachelor to Master is by way of examination.

The Bachelor of Arts in Music is an independent Bachelor's Degree programme under Swiss cooperation in accordance with the Konferenz Musikhochschulen Schweiz KMHS cooperation model.

Admissions criteria

Admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Music is conditional on: 

  • successful completion of high school exams, a vocational qualification, a diploma from another secondary school of general education, a certificate of other education with an equivalent general nature
  • passing an aptitude test

The requirement for completion of secondary education and vocational secondary education may be waived in exceptional circumstances if the candidate demonstrates an outstanding musical talent.

Admission (aptitude) test

The aptitude test consists of:

Major in performance

  • a practical test (preparation of a programme composed of works of different styles and from different periods for a total duration of at least 30 minutes; the panel reserves the right to hear only part of the programme)
  • a theory test to assess listening and harmony skills
  • an interview

Major in music theory and composition

  • a theory test to assess listening, harmony and analysis skills
  • an interview during which the candidate must present 3-4 of their own compositions

The student is only accepted as being eligible for the course if all parts of the test are passed.

Language

For admission to the Bachelor of Arts in Music, candidates who are not native speakers of Italian must present a certificate proving that their level of Italian language is at least B2 according to the Common European Framework for Modern Languages. (Celi 3 level, http://www.cvcl.it)
