Master of Arts
in Music Pedagogy

The Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy is a full time degree course [*]. This course requires total dedication from the student in terms of time and emotional commitment, to achieve not only technical and artistic but also pedagogical maturity. The Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy is offered with a Major in instrumental/vocal music pedagogy (specialization: classic). 

 

[*] On request, and with approval from the head of study programmes, the curriculum may be completed in three years. The number of ECTS credits, as well as the mandatory presence in all subjects, remain unvaried.

Extensions of study

The Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy usually takes place in 4 semesters and corresponds to a total number of working hours equivalent to 120 ECTS credits[*].

Type of Master

The Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy is an independent Master's Degree programme under Swiss cooperation in accordance with the Konferenz Musikhochschulen Schweiz KMHS cooperation model.

Admissions criteria

Admission is conditional on:

  • successful completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Music or equivalent musical education.
  • successful completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Music and Movement (or equivalent musical education), followed by a “passerella” supplementary certificate
  • passing an aptitude test
  • the availability of places

 

[*] If enrolled as a second Master's, 30 ECTS credits are normally recognised from the first Master's obtained, usually in the main subject (instrument/voice).

 

Admission (aptitude) test

The aptitude test consists of:

  • a practical test (performance of a programme composed of works of different styles and from different periods for a total duration of at least 30 minutes; the panel reserves the right to hear only part of the programme)
  • a lesson with a student from the CSI School of Music, normally lasting 30 minutes
  • an interview

The student is only accepted as being eligible for the course if all parts of the test are passed. 

Language

For admission to the Master of Arts in Pedagogy, candidates who are not native speakers of Italian must present a certificate proving that their level of Italian language is at least B2 according to the Common European Framework for Modern Languages. (Celi 3 level, http://www.cvcl.it)
