BA and MA degrees: applications

How to apply

Applications (download form) must reach the CSI secretarial office by 31 March. Late applications may be accepted if places are still available.

Application forms must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • a photocopy of a diploma di maturità (or equivalent qualification)
  • photocopies of certificates of any musical qualifications
  • a curriculum vitae

The entrance exams are normally held in April.

Linguistic requirements

For admission to the BA in Music, the BA in Music and Movement and the MA in Music Pedagogy, candidates who are not native speakers of Italian are required to submit proof of attainment of Italian language level B2 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (level CELI 3, http://www.cvcl.it).

Candidates who are native speakers of French, German or English, or who can demonstrate attainment of competence in one of these languages to level B2 as defined by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, can request exemption from this requirement. They must, however, demonstrate sufficient knowledge of Italian and attain level CELI 3 by the end of their first year of study.

Matriculation

Once they have passed the entrance exam, students must complete the formal registration process in order to matriculate. Unless otherwise informed they must submit the following documents:

  • original certificates of educational qualifications
  • proof of residence (for Swiss students and foreigners resident in Switzerland)
  • 3 passport photos

At the point of matriculation, students resident in a Swiss canton for at least two years must submit the “Questionario per determinare il domicilio valido per l’accordo tra le SUP” (Questionnaire for determining residence as agreed by the Professional University Schools, ITDEFR), duly completed.

Credits booklet

Once students have matriculated, they will be given a credits booklet. This is a personal document in which the academic credits relative to the various courses and seminars of the CSI are recorded.

It is the student’s responsibility to fill in and take care of the booklet.

At the end of each course or seminar, the teacher must sign the booklet to show that the course has been successfully completed (see the requirements for attendance and end-of-course exams/tests).

The booklet must then be taken immediately to the secretarial office for the completion of the course to be registered and for the allocation of the relative credits. If the teacher has not signed the booklet the credits will not be allocated.

Programme of study

At the beginning of each academic year every student is required to draw up his or her own programme of study using the enrolment form supplied by the secretarial office, on which the student will specify the courses that he/she intends to enrol for.

  • The proposal must first be submitted to Ellen Frau (office 408, ellen.frau@conservatorio.ch), for the programming of chamber music, twentieth-century music and orchestra to be approved.
  • The proposal must then be submitted for final approval either to the head of academic courses, Ellen Frau, or to the director, Christoph Brenner (via Alexandra Rossini, office 414, alexandra.rossini@conservatorio.ch).
  • The student is then required to transcribe the approved programme of study into his/her credits booklet.
