Admission procedures 2020-2021

Coronavirus emergency

Due to the current situation related to the COVID-19 emergency, and having in mind that we must guarantee equal admission conditions to all applicants, the University of Music has adopted the following important modifications to the admission procedures:

  • All live auditions in our Lugano campus have been cancelled.
  • For the study programmes hereby listed, all live auditions for all instruments will be substituted with video auditions:
    • Bachelor of Arts in Music;
    • Master of Arts in Music Performance - Major in Instrumental/Vocal Performance;
    • Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy;
    • Master of Arts in Specialized Music Performance;

Instructions on how to prepare the video auditions, as well as the relevant deadlines, are listed in this document:

Auditions with video recording

Further important information concerning video recording: due to the restrictions on mobility imposed by the governments of many countries, applicants for the academic year 2020-2021 are invited to choose an application repertoire that does not require piano accompaniment (solo repertoire). In the case an applicant has already prepared a programme that indeed requires a piano accompanist but is currently unable to find one for the recording due to the current restrictions on mobility, the school will accept—in a fully exceptional manner—recordings of the solo part without accompaniment, or recordings that have been made in the past 6 months (prior to 31 March 2020), or recordings that have been made with the aid of pre-recorded piano accompaniment tracks.

  • All other admission exams will be re-programmed for the near future with procedures that are will be shortly defined:
    • theory exams and interviews for the Bachelor of Arts in Music;
    • theory exams, all practical tests, and interviews for the Bachelor of Arts in Music and Movement;
    • the lesson with a CSI student and the interview for the Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy;
    • all tests for the Master of Arts in Music Performance - Major in Wind Orchestra Conducting;
    • all tests for the Master of Arts in Music Performance - Major in Ensemble Conducting (Contemporary Repertoire);
    • the written test, the practical test, and the interview for the Master of Arts in Music Composition and Theory;
    • all tests for the CSI-DFA Double Master.

Further information, when it will be become available, will be immediately communicated via email by the school’s secretariat.
