MAS in Contemporary Music Performance and Interpretation

The Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) in Music Performance and Interpretation is a continuing education specialization (post-diploma degree) aimed at musicians who wish to broaden their repertoire knowledge and enhance their performance skills through the study of interpretative techniques used in the interpretation of music from the XX and XXI centuries.
The programme is also opened to existing chamber music ensembles.

Duration
The duration is 2 years (4 semesters).

Audition examinations usually take place on the second half of June.

Admissions criteria
Candidates may be admitted if they meet the following criteria:
- have finished a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree
- have submitted a complete application dossier
- have successfully passed their admissions audition. For the auditions, candidates must perform in front of a commission a 30 minute programme in which they should play at least two representative pieces from the XX and XXI centuries. Alternatively, candidates may send to the Head of Advanced Studies a link to a recent recording of a live performance (non-edited video) of the same 30 minute programme. The recording must be in high quality and should not be older than 2 weeks
- have successfully passed an admissions interview

Costs
The programme costs CHF 9’500, that correspond to the following fees:
- Registration fee CHF 250
- Semester administrative fee CHF 250
- Semester fee CHF 2’000
- Final exam fee CHF 250

Structure
Participants will receive 17 sixty-minute lessons per year with their main instrument teacher. Furthermore, participation to a selection of seminars/activities, as well as sitting the final project is mandatory.

The course leads to the acquisition of 60 ECTS credits, divided as follows:
- Main instrument 25 ECTS per year
Seminars/Activities 6 ECTS
Final project 4 ECTS

At the end of the first year, participants must sit an intermediate exam that consists in the performance of a 30 minute programme agreed with their main instrument teacher.

 

Title
At the end of their studies, participants will receive a Master of Advanced Studies SUPSI in Contemporary Music Performance and Interpretation diploma, under the condition that they:
- have acquired all required ECTS credits
- have successfully sit the final project

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) and the titles that it awards are recognized by the Federal Government according to the law relating to Professional University Schools, 2 October 1995 and subsequent revisions.
This title is not a professional qualification and does not qualify holders to teach in public schools in Switzerland.

Regulations
Participants must observe the Study Regulations of the University of Music. The University of Music reserves itself the right not to open the course in particular circumstances.

Suspending or terminating participation
During their studies, participants may suspend or terminate their studies.
